Driveways Pontefract, Ackworth & Knottingley
Pontefract is where SH Landscapes & Driveways is based, so this is the patch we know best. We lay resin, block paving and imprinted concrete drives here and in Ackworth and Knottingley, and often take on the garden, fencing and walls at the same visit.

Why a driveway here often turns into a whole-frontage job
Homes around Pontefract range from Victorian terraces near the town centre to inter-war semis and later estates in Carleton and Chequerfield. A lot of those frontages have an old concrete drive, a tired fence and a wall that no longer matches. Being local, Sean can walk the whole plot with you and price it as one project. You then deal with a single team and a single timeline, rather than three separate trades arriving in turn.
- Resin bound, block paving, imprinted concrete and gravel drives
- Front walls and pillars built to suit the new surface
- Concrete fence posts with gravel boards along the boundary
- Lawns, turf or artificial grass finished in the same project
Ackworth and Knottingley: two different briefs
Ackworth has stone-built houses around High Ackworth and the green, alongside newer family homes at Ackworth Moor Top. On those older properties a brick or block border often sits better against the stone than a plain edge. Knottingley is a lower-lying town beside the River Aire and the Aire and Calder Navigation, with plenty of post-war housing. There we pay close attention to falls and where rainwater goes, because a drive that sheds water onto the house causes more trouble than a dull one.
- Borders chosen to sit comfortably against older stone
- Falls set away from doors and airbricks
- Channel drains where a drive slopes towards the property
- Permeable surfaces for front gardens with no other run-off
Reading the ground before picking a surface
Pontefract sits on the edge of two types of ground, with limestone to the east and heavier coal measures to the west, so one street can behave differently from the next. That is why we look at what is underneath before recommending a finish. If your existing tarmac or concrete is sound and drains well, resin may go straight over it. If it has cracked or sunk, we would rather tell you so and dig out for a new base than cover up a problem.
- Existing surface checked for cracks, sinking and standing water
- New compacted sub-base where the old one has failed
- Old material and spoil taken away with the job
- Honest advice if a cheaper finish would serve you better
How the job works
- 1Walk the plotSean comes out, measures the drive and garden together, and notes anything that affects the base, such as drains or tree roots.
- 2Choose with samples in handYou compare resin blends, paving colours and border options against your own brickwork, on your own doorstep.
- 3Order the workOn a combined job we plan the sequence, so that walls and fencing go up before the final surface goes down.
- 4Finish and clearThe surface is completed, waste is removed and you get a walk-round of everything we have done.

Common questions
Do you cover Ackworth and Knottingley as well as Pontefract?
Yes. Both are on our doorstep and part of our regular area, along with the villages around them. Every quote visit is free and carries no obligation.
Can you do my Pontefract drive and back garden as one job?
Yes, and it is often the better way to do it. One team handles both, so the sequence is planned from the start and materials can be chosen to work together.
What suits an older stone house in Ackworth?
Usually a warmer resin blend, or block paving in a muted colour with a matching border. Sean will bring samples so you can judge them against the stone itself.
How do I book a quote in the Pontefract area?
Call or WhatsApp Sean on 07860 510073, or send the form on this page with a rough idea of the job. He will arrange a time to visit and measure up.
