Pattern Imprinted Concrete Driveways in West Yorkshire
A low-maintenance alternative to paving that replicates stone or cobble, finished with decorative borders.
Pattern Imprinted Concrete
Pattern Imprinted Concrete by a City & Guilds approved team
Pattern imprinted concrete gives you the look of natural stone, slate or cobbles in a single, solid slab. Concrete is poured, coloured and then stamped with a pattern before it sets, so there are no joints for weeds to grow through and nothing to work loose over time.
It is a hard-wearing choice for busy family drives and larger areas, and once sealed it is easy to keep clean. We install imprinted concrete driveways, paths and patios across Pontefract and West Yorkshire, and we also clean and reseal existing imprinted surfaces.
Strong & durable
A reinforced concrete slab on a compacted base copes well with daily traffic and heavier vehicles.
No weeds through joints
One continuous surface means no gaps for weeds or ants to work through.
Stone looks for less
Get a cobble, slate or flagstone effect without the cost of laying individual stones.
Sealed finish
A protective sealer brings out the colour and helps resist oil and stains.
Is imprinted concrete the right driveway for your home?
Stamped concrete makes most sense on a long or wide drive where loose materials would be awkward and joints would mean endless weeding. A heavy family car or motorhome sits happily on it, and a single pour avoids the fiddly cuts that small blocks need around bends. Honest drawbacks exist as well. Nothing can be lifted, so a utility repair leaves a visible scar, and colour matching an old slab afterwards is close to impossible. Rain runs off rather than soaking in, which means extra drainage on many frontages, unlike a porous surface. Ground prone to settlement, such as fresh backfill beside an extension, is better left to something flexible. Some owners also dislike the sealed sheen, preferring the honest texture of real stone or clay pavers on an older property.
Sealer bloom, cracking and other imprinted concrete faults
White, milky patches under the glaze are called bloom, and they appear when moisture gets trapped beneath a coat of acrylic. Sealing a slab that has not fully dried is the classic cause, closely followed by piling on heavy coats in humid conditions. Thin, even applications on a dry day prevent it, and existing haze can often be cleared by reactivating the film with solvent. Cracks are a separate issue. Concrete always shrinks as it cures, so saw cuts are placed deliberately to decide where that movement goes, with reinforcement holding the slab together. Skip those cuts and random lines wander across the pattern. Slippery finishes are worth mentioning too: a fine anti-slip additive in the final coat gives tyres and shoes more grip on wet mornings, particularly on any slope.
How it works, step by step
- Step 1
Survey & quote
We check levels, drainage and access, then help you choose a pattern and colours.
- Step 2
Excavation & base
The old surface is removed and a compacted sub-base is laid with the right falls.
- Step 3
Pour & imprint
Concrete is poured, coloured and stamped with your chosen pattern before it sets.
- Step 4
Clean & seal
The surface is washed, cut for expansion and sealed to bring out the finish.

Pattern Imprinted Concrete: your questions answered

Does imprinted concrete need planning permission?
Imprinted concrete is not porous, so on a front garden over 5 square metres you will need drainage that takes rainwater to a soakaway or permeable area on your property, rather than onto the road. We design this in so you stay within the rules.
How do I look after an imprinted concrete drive?
Sweep and wash it regularly, and clean up oil spills quickly. Every few years it benefits from a professional clean and reseal, which we also offer.
Is imprinted concrete better than block paving?
Both are hard-wearing. Imprinted concrete has no joints for weeds, while block paving is easier to repair in small sections. We are happy to talk through which suits your home and budget.
