Garden landscaping

Landscapers in West Yorkshire

A good garden is planned as a whole, with levels, drainage and paving worked out before anything is planted or laid. We are landscape gardeners covering West Yorkshire from Pontefract, handling the hard landscaping and lawns ourselves, so one team takes the garden from first sketch to final tidy.

Everything a garden makeover usually needs

Most gardens we are asked to look at need several trades, and that is where a single landscaping team saves a lot of coordination. Sandstone or porcelain paving gives you somewhere to sit, a lawn gives the space its green, and fencing or a wall sets the boundary. Sleepers add height and planting, while drainage fixes the wet corners that spoil everything else. Because the same people do all of it, the patio height, lawn level and fence line get worked out together.

  • Indian sandstone and porcelain patios
  • Artificial grass or freshly laid turf
  • Fence panels on concrete posts, gates and decking
  • Sleeper beds, brick walls and garden drainage

Sloping, wet or awkward gardens

Plenty of Yorkshire gardens are not the flat rectangle a plan assumes. Plots climb or fall away from the house, heavier soils hold water through winter, and older properties can have a yard barely wider than the back door. Re-levelling with sleeper or brick retaining walls turns a slope into usable terraces, while land drains and soakaways deal with ground that stays soggy. Solving those problems first is what stops a new lawn turning into a bog or a patio tilting towards your house.

  • Terracing with sleepers, steps and retaining walls
  • Land drains for lawns that never seem to dry out
  • Small yards made to feel bigger with one simple surface
  • Falls set so rain runs away from the building

Choosing landscape gardeners near me

Anyone looking up landscapers near me should expect a clear plan, real samples and a quote that spells out what happens to the soil and waste. Be wary of a price with no mention of groundwork, because that is where the time goes on nearly every garden landscaping job. We visit, listen to how you want to use the space, suggest ideas and tell you honestly if something will not work on your plot. If planting is high on your list, say so early and we will shape beds around it.

  • A visit from Sean himself, with samples to handle
  • Clear quotes covering groundwork and waste removal
  • Installation guarantee and full insurance
  • Regular updates and a tidy site while we work

How the job works

  1. 1Walk the gardenWe go round the plot with you, note levels and wet spots, and talk through how the family actually uses the outdoor space.
  2. 2Shape the planIdeas are firmed up into a layout, with materials chosen from samples and a written quote for the whole scheme.
  3. 3Groundwork firstExcavation, re-levelling, drainage and walls come before anything decorative, so the structure of the garden is right.
  4. 4Finish and tidyPaving, lawn, fencing and beds go in last, then waste is taken away and the garden is left ready to enjoy.

Common questions

What order should garden landscaping work be done in?

Drainage and levels come first, then walls, steps and paving, then fencing, and lawns and planting last. Working in that order means heavy machinery and barrows are not crossing finished surfaces, and new turf does not get churned up.

Can you redo a whole garden in one go?

Yes. Whole-garden projects are a big part of what we do, covering patios, lawns, fencing, sleeper beds and walls. Many are finished within a week, though a larger plot or a lot of re-levelling can take longer. Sean will give you a timeline when he quotes.

Do you do planting as well as hard landscaping?

Our main work is the structure of the garden: paving, lawns, fencing, walls, raised beds and drainage. We can fill new beds with topsoil so they are ready to plant, so talk to Sean at the visit about what you have in mind for the planting.

Is it worth paying a landscaper rather than doing it myself?

Small jobs like edging a border are very doable yourself. Paving, retaining walls and drainage are harder to put right if they go wrong, because the mistakes are buried under the finished surface. A free visit will at least tell you what the job really involves.
